Has there ever been a lure as simple yet as effective as the Zman Slim SwimZ. It’s a downsized swimbait that simply imitates a minnow with a brilliant paddle tail action. This 2.5 inch soft plastic does much of the work and produces great results without you adding much action. I can attest to catching countless bream with these soft plastics. Especially when rigged with a HWS hidden weight system jig head in weights ranging from 1/12 all the way through to 1/40. That being said I have also caught flathead, redfin, trout, mullet, flounder, snapper, pinkies, salmon, golden perch, estuary perch, carp and other species with this very versatile soft plastic. I have used this soft plastic whilst fishing land-based, on a kayak and on a boat and the results have consistently been good. When the bite has gone quiet I have introduced some scent lightly rubbed into the tail which helps encourage timid fish.

We have found these work well with a simple slow roll. That’s just a continuous slow to medium paced retrieval spin of your reel. They also well really well using a simple hopping technique. This is simply adding some lift and pauses hoping the soft plastic of the bottom. Dont be afraid to mix up your retrieval techniques. You can also catch fish by slowly trolling them from a boat or kayak. When fishing with them I like to use a light spin rod. Generally, something around 7 foot length and 1-3, 2-4, 3-5 kilo class coupled with a small spinning reel.

There are 23 different colour options available which means you have options for just about every situation. You have natural looking colours that imitate bait fish. These are great for targeting fish in our estuary systems. Then you have bright colours which work remarkably well on freshwater species.

If you have ever used Zmans other range of soft plastics then you’ll know that they are super durable. Just stretch the soft plastic and you’ll see exactly what we mean. You can stretch them about 3 times there size without damaging them. They achieve this using an elaZtech technology which allows the soft plastic to be used over and over again after many bites. This technology also allows the soft plastic to be very soft and that in turn is what provides much of the natural looking action in the tail.

These soft plastics were originally only available in a 2.5 inch size. These mainly targeted at species such as bream, pinkies, and flathead that pan-sized fish. But due to there tremendous success, Zman has also released a 3 inch size which is great when using these out in the bay. These are ideal for bigger fish species.

How could you possibly complain about getting these soft plastics for around $10 for a pack of 8 soft plastics from most retail outlets. That’s terrific value and if you’re lucky you won’t go through to many jig heads which again are not very expensive to buy. These soft plastics are very durable and often don’t need to be replaced after getting a bite unlike may other soft plastics in the market.

A final word from the author
This has become one of our favourite fishing soft plastics. It’s easy to use, rig up and it’s very affordable. They come in a great and large range of colours. I keep going back to it time and time again. Bream just love this soft plastic and you don’t have to get to fancy to catch them. You can add your own action or use a simple cast and a slow roll. Either with different retrieval speeds will get you your fair share of fish.
